Star of the Seas - What We Expect to See Now That Icon Has Been Released

Updated: Jul 30

Icon of the Seas made waves in the cruise industry as she debuted early this year out of Miami, Florida. She is the first of the Icon Class ships, and is the largest cruise ship at sea...for now. With Icon Royal has showcased endless thrills, chills, entertainment, and dining, and created the most impressive cruise ship at sea.

What to Expect

The next Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, is going to be even bigger, and now that we have seen Icon for ourselves, we have an idea of what to expect from Star. She will be sailing the Caribbean out of Port Canaveral, and every itinerary with include a stop at the award-winning Perfect Day at CocoCay!

Larger Than Life Thrills

CATEGORY 6 | As with Icon, the thrills will be off the charts on Star. Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea, will once again be onboard, featuring 6 fear-inducing waterslides.

CROWN'S EDGE | The Crown's Edge will be returning for Star, as it has been such a popular activity thus far on Icon. This is the ropes course that has guests walking out and over the side of the ship to a platform that drops out from underneath, sending them on a thrilling zipline journey back to the firm ground of the ship's deck.

Non-Stop Chills

POOLS | Throughout the ship will be 7 pools with incredible views! From the suspended infinity pool at The Hideaway, to the Swim & Tonic, to the wading pool in the Surfside Family neighborhood, there will be plenty of places to dip your toes and relax in the sun onboard Star.

BARS & LOUNGES | Swim up to the Swim & Tonic Bar for a cocktail, grab a drink from any of the 4 Lime & Coconut Bars, enjoy a mojito from Cantina Fresca, or stop at the Trellis Bar on your stroll through Central Park- these are just some of the many incredible bar and lounge option that Icon showcased, and will be brought back for Star!

DINING | There will be 40+ ways to dine onboard Star, with specialty and complimentary options on nearly every public deck! The vintage NYC themed Empire Supper Club was a huge hit on Icon, and Royal has mentioned that on Star this venue will have a Chicago theme.

Next-Level Wows

ENTERTAINMENT | The entertainment on Icon of the Seas was out of this world, and we expect nothing less from Star. The Aqua Theater in the new AquaDome Neighborhood will offer an incredibly choreographed show featuring synchronized swimming, diving tricks, dancing, and acrobatic feats that are like nothing else you have seen in the industry before. The Wizard of Oz broadway production was on Icon, and we know Star will have a popular and exciting musical onboard as well!

Over the Top Stays

SUITES | The Suites on Icon were next-level, with the introduction of the Ultimate Family Townhouse, and one of the most beautiful Royal Loft Suites we have ever seen. The Ultimate Family Townhouse is 3-levels of family-fun, with a private entrance to the Surfside Family Neighborhood, an indoor slide, and a movie theater space. We know this suite will be just as popular on Star as it has been on Icon.

The Royal Loft suite on the Icon Class ships are gorgeous, with 2-stories of floor-to-ceiling windows across the whole space, large bedrooms, a baby grand piano, and amazing views of the ocean, and Swim & Tonic Bar and Pool.

Royal continued the incredible suite experience with the Surfside Family Suite, a family-inspired suite overlooking Surfside, with a balcony, and play nook for the kids!

The AquaDome Neighborhood has been a popular new space on Icon, and is the star feature on the Icon Class ships. Royal created a brand new suite category in this neighborhood- the Panoramic Suite, with space for up to 3 guests, an incredible panoramic window, and only steps away from the rest of the AquaDome.

STATEROOMS | The Icon Class has created some of the most beautiful entry-level rooms in the industry, with modern and updated touches throughout, including large showers, and plenty of closet space.

The Family Infinite Oceanview Balcony was a hit on Icon, and will be seen on Star of as well. This huge space offers extra indoor square footage with the infinite balcony concept, and there is a great bunk-bed area that kids will love!

There are lots of Infinite Balcony staterooms on Icon, and the Spacious Infinite Balcony offers more room to spread out, and an extra sitting area that can convert to a balcony when the window is lowered. This has been an extremely popular option given the additional square footage of the interior, and will no-doubt be just as popular on Star of the Seas.

Exciting Things to Come...

While Star of the Seas is expected to be pretty much the same as Icon, we do know one thing for sure will be different. The wildly popular Empire Supper Club that debuted on Icon will get a few changes for Star. This New York City themed specialty dining venue on Icon offers a 8-course meal, with specialty cocktails throughout, formal attire required, and a 3-piece jazz band playing the whole evening. This venue on Star will have a similar concept, but with a Chicago theme, and Royal has not yet released the final name as of yet.

There is no doubt the Icon Class of ships have the most over-the-top designs we have seen from Royal thus far. With Star of the Seas is set to be just as spectacular as Icon, we will look forward to more details about this magnificent ship in the months to come before her grand entrance into the world in 2025.
