Cruising is one of the most popular ways to vacation across the globe, and becomes more and more popular with each and every year. The idea that you can enjoy a vacation to a beautiful destination while doing minimal planning, return to the same room every night, and have all your meals included in a HUGE draw. Cruising takes the hard work out of your vacation, so you can fully relax and enjoy the destinations you are visiting.
While there are ports all over the world, many people are required to travel to get to their cruise's port of origin. At Harr Travel, we highly recommend those who need to fly to get to their cruise plan on flying in the day before, and purchasing a hotel room for the night. While this is an extra expense, it will save you potential headaches in the long run.
WHY BOOK A PRE-CRUISE HOTEL
Cruises are set to a very strict schedule, and boarding times are not flexible. While your ship may not depart till 5pm, many cruise lines require the ship be fully boarded at least a couple of hours before departure, so you will want to be at the terminal even earlier to check in and go through the security line. We always recommend arriving with hours to spare, because even if you board early, there is always plenty to do and enjoy onboard, even before departure. So with that in mind, if you are flying in the morning of, you will be at risk of missing your cruise if your flight is delayed or cancelled. When something like this happens, you are left with the responsibility of covering the costs to meet up with your cruise at the next port of call, or lose out on your cruise costs altogether.
This is why we recommend flying in the day before, so if any delays or cancellations happen, you have time to get it all sorted before your ship departs. If you fly in the night before, be sure to book a hotel close to the cruise terminal, if possible, that way you will have a seamless experience the morning of. We also advise our clients to purchase the necessary travel insurance, just in case of emergencies.
It is worth noting that some luxury cruise lines include airfare and pre-cruise hotel rooms with the price of the cruise, which is a great option to consider! Your Harr Travel advisors can help navigate all that for you, and let you know the best option for your group and budget. We are also happy to help you book flights and hotel rooms for your cruise vacation.
